Well, in a nutshell, it's the equivalent of marketing ONLY to people that have already visited your website. Or certain parts of your website. I.e. only your ads only appear to people that have taken certain 'qualifying' action which you can measure and exploit. Your advert - either a regular Google PPC Text Ad or a full blown banner advert is shown all across the Google Content Network advertising your company, products or services. IN my opinion, a banner ad is better because it offers more visual impact for branding & memory retention. Eh? Surely They're the LAST People I Want to Market To? No, not at all! There are various reasons why advertising to the same people again and again and again is beneficial. Firstly, and as anyone who knows about marketing will tell you, repetition is a great way to increase your response rate. I've already explained in other articles that it typically takes 7 messages (or 'touches') before someone buys from you. Remarketing to people that went onto your website and didn't buy yet or signup or convert somehow is a great way to increase those contact with them. Secondly, it will make your company look a LOT bigger! When people start seeing your ad all over the place, they'll think you're massive. In reality of course, only the people that have ALREADY been to your website will see these ads. Thirdly, you
can
target specific people WITHIN your marketplace. But... all those people can be targeted to see your ads for GAMES instead and this can hugely increase your ROI. i.e. You are ONLY showing ads to your Target Market...! Incidentally, there is 'arbitrage' to be had here! That means that if you are in a very competitive field for one thing but NOT another, you can buy cheap PPC Traffic for one thing and then Re-Market the other products/services which are usually a lot more expensive to advertise :-) How
Does
All This Work? You need to figure out which are your 'conversion pages' and which people you want to re-market to and which landing page they need to go to. Of course, people can opt-out of re-marketing if they want to by going to http://www.google.com/ads/preferences and opting out of any category that they want to see ads for. (Most of your customers and prospects won't even know about this) You can even use NEGATIVE Remarketing if you want to. This means deciding lists of people that you DON'T want to see your ad. Maybe they've already bought from you and you don't need to advertise to them again as you have a robust email retention programme - whatever... There's other more involved stuff about frequency capping and ad-scheduling etc but fore now I just want you to be aware of this and try it to see if it increases your conversions. Incidentally, Google are not the only people that offer remarketing but they're almost certainly the only people to bother concentrating with for now.(Expect this to grow and reach other portals - e.g. Facebook, LinkedIn etc.) Do you think
