Divided we Fall...

1-Cross Sell(Joint Venture)
What's a Joint Venture & How Could it Help You?

Basically, a Joint venture is where you help to promote someone else's
products or services - in return for either favour or money.

Here's an example - you go into a Motorway Service Station and See a
chap Selling AA Breakdown Cover(I used to do that!). Or you buy
a magazine and inside is a CD-ROM offering demo software.

That's Joint Venture.

The Good news is that you don't have to be a multi-million
pound industry to run joint venture - anyone can do it.

The beauty is - when done properly, you're offering appropriate goods or services to your target customers who already have an established relationship with you.

It's a win-win situation.

A hair salon - Could offer a coupon for a nail salon across the town.

A garage - could cross sell car wash products on a commission basis.

A shop owner can have a cafe-concession within the shop.

Advertisers can co-brand their products.

You get the idea?

Now, with regards to the least example - we're getting close to why
it's a great move to do this with your website...

Some example ideas...

Link exchanging.
Linking to relevant, similar sites boosts your page-rank.

Google Adsense - Make money by simply displaying a relevant ad!

Affiliate Programs.
Pretty self explanatory - link to other people's sites and take a percentage of everything sold. Checkout my Resources Page'

2-"Up-Sell"
It's a known fact that anywhere from 30% to 50% of your buyers will buy from you again if you offer them a something else!

Typical examples that everyone's heard of:

Go into a burger bar and get asked "Would you like fries with that?"

Buy some shoes and be offered "Need some Polish for those?"

Order a TV and instantly your quizzed "What happens if it breaks down in 2 years - why not have some insurance?"

(The latter is my pet hate but hey - that's life.)

Ways to do it online :

1) If you have an ecommerce checkout - make the software 'smart' and
offer other items for the products being bought - e.g. batteries, replacements, covers, insurance, spare parts - you name it.

2) If you are offering a service - bundle something else in for a reduced cost as a package - e.g. a Drycleaners can offer to clean 3 items of clothing for the price of 2.

3) Offer Free Shipping - if a certain target price has been met.

The important thing is not HOW you up-sell(because there's no right or wrongs - you'll need to test) but that you DO IT!

Email.
Remember, If you have your clients' email address - you can email them after a day, a week, a month and offer them something else. When done properly, it's part good customer service.

The Good News - neither of these strategies costs you a penny!
