Navigation & Clarity
If your visitors cannot get around your site easily, or get confused
by what they see – you will lose them.
Assuming your website is designed to create revenue then a website is
far better to be over simple than over-complicated.
Do not get caught in the trap of web-designer’s ‘showing
off’ their talents with the latest graphics and multimedia techniques.
Your customers just want information – that’s all! If your
site gives the right information – they will be much more likely
to buy.
It is ESSENTIAL that your visitors can get around your site within two
or three clicks – and then get back again! If they can’t
they’ll simply get lost and/or go elsewhere. ‘Breadcrumb’
navigation(look at the top of this page) for complicated sites –
or where there a re a lot of ‘DRILL-DOWNS’ is an easy to
understand and well respected means of navigation.
Menu bars are typically situated on the left hand side. Make buttons
LOOK LIKE BUTTONS! Try and have text hyperlinks either underlined or
obvious in some way – or your links won’t get used &
consequently missed opportunities.
The benefits of ‘Good Navigation’ include:
• Increased Conversion. You’ve paid for
marketing the site – now get your best return.
• Increase satisfaction. Your visitors will be
far happier and consequently more likely to buy from you in some way
if there are not annoyed at your website. Remember – a competitor
is just a click away.
• Everyone likes something for nothing! Offer
something that costs you little or nothing but that may well be of value
to your customers.
